Little Acorns Montessori School offers a community classroom for children 2.5 to 6 years of age. Class size is limited to 15 children and an educator/student ratio of 1:8 is maintained as per the guidelines set forth in the Government of Ontario Day Nurseries Act.
The program is offered to accommodate a variety of needs. Children may attend half-day (morning or afternoon) or full day programs. The Montessori program is a five-day per week program and it is strongly suggested that children attend consistently in order to foster a sense of security within their environment. Little Acorns follows the traditional school calendar and as such is closed for Christmas holidays, March break, and the summer. During the month of July a summer program may be offered pending interest. The Little Acorns classroom is divided into five main areas to allow children to work and satisfy their sensitivity. The five areas in a Montessori classroom are:
Activities in these areas are presented to children individually as they are ready. Once a child has been shown how to use materials, they are free to use it on their own as often as they wish.
The following are descriptions of the five areas:
In the classroom children are free to work on their own or to sit with others while completing their work. In order to help your child recognize other interests and abilities in addition to teaching to the five areas outlined by Montessori we will be introducing basic French, Music and a Physical Education program through small group activities. Our Music and French will be taught in the classroom, while our Physical Education program will take place in the on site gymnasium. These will be offered in both the morning and the afternoon sessions and will incorporate as much as possible the Montessori teaching philosophy. |
